Anxiety and your Skin
Have you noticed that your anxiety levels can have an impact on your skin?
Anxiety and ageing is a real problem. It’s no surprise to see that stress and anxiety can take its toll on your face. It can literally age a person in months. Prolonged exposure to anxiety and stress can literally add years to your face. It can cause your hair to fall out and your hair to go grey in a very short time.
Why is this?
When we’re stressed our immune system diverts its resources to fighting the stress and it leaves us susceptible to illness. While it’s fighting the emotional issues, the stress hormones can affect our skin. Our skin reflects our inner emotions!
Anxiety creates an influx of adrenaline and cortisol that has an acidic effect on the body. Which is why a lot of anxious people develop acid reflux and IBS. As the stress hormones are constantly firing, the toll on our immune system can cause our skin to lose its firmness, colour and vitality.
Anti depressants in the short term can be helpful, while you sort out the reasons for your anxiety and you get help for that. But often they carry side effects that can cause negative abreactions in your skin and hair. But it’s not all doom and gloom!
Where are the positives?
Getting the proper psychological help to remove the anxiety is the key to solving the above. Anxiety is now completely treatable and can be removed.
In addition to this, getting the help and guidance from a properly qualified skin specialist can reverse those unwanted facial problems. Putting back into the skin what was taken out is the key to restoring your former condition, and in some cases improving how you looked before.
A fully qualified skincare professional is worth their weight in gold as they will take the guess work out of the restoring process. As in all things in life you get what you pay for and enlisting a qualified professional is the key to solving your problems. It’s often tempting to get things done cheap but in my experience it’s a false economy. Never trust your mind or your skin to just anyone!
